Field notes

Design a one-page site that feels finished

Contrast, type, and the few sections every small-business homepage actually needs.

Most small sites fail because they look like a draft. Not because they lack a blog, a slider, or a parallax hero.

A complete homepage is five blocks

  1. Who you are and where you work.
  2. What you sell, in the customer’s words.
  3. Proof — a photo, a review, a license number.
  4. How to reach you this afternoon.
  5. A footer that repeats the name, city, and hours.

That is enough for Google and for a person on a bus.

Type and color

Pick one display face and one body face. This journal uses Sora for titles and Inter for reading — close to the RegisterMySite product. Dark pages need real contrast: #f4f7ff on #07111f is safer than medium gray on navy.

Buttons should look like buttons. Links in body copy should look like links. Do not animate the thing the user came to read.

Speed is a design choice

A 40kb hero illustration beats a 2MB photo of a handshake. SVG logos scale. System fonts are allowed. If you must load Google Fonts, preconnect and use display=swap.

Write like a person

“Solutions for tomorrow’s leaders” is not a service. “We replace cracked windshields in Beaverton the same day” is. Put the second sentence in the H1.
